Tesla Cybertruck Getting Closer to Entering Chinese Market
On December 11th, the Tesla Cybertruck appeared in the new vehicle energy consumption calculation declaration catalog released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
According to the data submitted by Tesla, the Cybertruck has an energy consumption of 22.6 kWh per 100 kilometers, an equivalent fuel consumption of 2.62 L/100 km, and an estimated energy cost of 14.92 yuan per 100 km. The peak power of the drive motor is 206/222/222 kW, with a range of 618 km. The average range decreases by 15% when operating the air conditioning in high temperatures and by 40% when using the heater in low temperatures.
The energy consumption calculation declaration is just one of the many requirements for a car to enter the Chinese market. There are still certifications needed for driving and body structure compliance, but this also signifies that Tesla’s Cybertruck is one step closer to being sold in China.
It is reported that the Cybertruck faces challenges entering the domestic market mainly due to conflicts with current regulations and safety crash standards regarding its body shape, size, materials, and construction in China.
According to the national standard “Technical Conditions for the Safe Operation of Motor Vehicles” implemented in China since 2018, any part or component that passengers inside or outside the vehicle may come into contact with should not have any sharp protrusions that could cause injury, such as sharp corners or edges.
In terms of the Cybertruck’s body structure, there are sharp angles in various locations such as the rear and front, and the vehicle’s stainless steel material is too hard, which does not comply with the collision regulations.
Moreover, the Cybertruck has a length of 5885mm and a width of 2026mm, posing a challenge on whether the vehicle can fit into standard parking spaces in China.
Furthermore, the four-wheel-drive version of the Tesla Cybertruck is priced at $74,490 in North America (approximately 540,000 RMB). If imported into China, it is estimated that the price of the Cybertruck in China would exceed one million RMB.
