Tesla Denies Fire at Shanghai Auto Shop Caused by A Model Y
A fire broke out on November 24 at an auto interior shop in Shanghai, damaging about 12 luxury cars. Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, several bloggers claimed that a Tesla Model Y was the source. Tesla has denied this speculation, emphasizing the need to wait for the investigation of local fire departments to be completed.
A well-known car blogger said on Weibo that there were three Rolls-Royce Cullinans, two Rolls-Royce Gustards, two Mercedes-Benz G63s, one McLaren 720S and one Ferrari F12 parked in the store at the time of the incident, and the Mercedes-Benz G-class he had just bought was also burned in the accident. Several other car bloggers also confirmed this incident.
The fire broke out at about 4:00 am on November 24 and was extinguished at 7:00 am. Nearby stores were closed due to the fire. According to pictures circulating on social media, most of the vehicles in the store were burned beyond recognition, leaving only the frame. Wheels and auto parts were scattered everywhere.
The local fire department said that the fire caused no casualties, and vehicle damage totaled 50 million yuan ($6.99 million). Bloggers blaming the Tesla car confirmed that the Model Y was the only electric vehicle in the store.

The speculation has likely been caused by previous incidents. In July this year, a fire broke out at a Tesla facility in Suzhou, and many cars were completely burned. Because the fire was so fierce and in a confined space, the local fire department used robots to extinguish the fire. Afterwards, an individual familiar with the matter said on social media that the fire was caused by a Tesla car with a faulty chassis.
