Tesla Responds to Vehicle Accident in Sichuan, Two Deaths, Six Injuries
On Sept. 5, a Tesla vehicle suddenly accelerated when passing a local street on Shuangfu Street in Nanchong, Sichuan, hitting several pedestrians, causing two deaths, six injuries, and multiple vehicle collisions.
After preliminary testing, the driver surnamed Liu was ruled out of suspicion of drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, local police reported.
Tesla’s official WeChat account responded immediately that according to the analysis of vehicle data, no signs of the vehicle malfunctioning were detected.
The company added that relevant staff immediately rushed to the scene and the company will fully cooperate with police to investigate the cause of the accident.
Soon after the accident, rumors about Tesla deleting the Weibo post that originally responded to the accident stirred public discussions over Tesla’s driving safety concerns.
