Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory Exports First Batch of EVs After Work Resumption

The vessel Glovis Splendor carrying 4,767 electric vehicles produced by Tesla’s Shanghai plant departed on Wednesday from Shanghai’s Nangang Port to overseas, Shanghai Securities News reported on Wednesday. This is the first batch of EVs shipped from the factory since it resumed production on April 19.

Tesla had produced 10,000 vehicles as of April 30 since the facility resumed its production despite capacity not having reached full recovery.

In the Chinese market, Tesla sold 1,512 vehicles in April, all of which were delivered domestically. With the continuous recovery of Tesla’s logistics support in the Yangtze River Delta region, a large number of cars are ready to be shipped.

The Shanghai Gigafactory has also made great efforts to produce vehicles for export. At present, some vehicles are being shipped to the Asia-Pacific region, and a large number of products are also loaded on container ships which will be exported to Europe and other places.

Local customs has been optimizing its operations to ensure the normal workings of automobile exports at the Nangang Port. Considering the flexible shipping schedule of roll-on-roll-off ships, local departments introduced liaison officers with key automobile enterprises on a one-to-one basis to smooth out online business coordination during the epidemic. From January to April this year, Nangang Port has witnessed a throughput of 191,000 units of vehicles from famous brands such as Tesla, SAIC Group, and Renault.
