From August 1st to 6th, the Retail Sales of New Energy Vehicles Reached 88,000 units
On August 10th, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released the sales data for the Chinese automotive market from August 1st to August 6th, 2023. From August 1st to 6th, retail sales of passenger vehicles reached 241,000 units, a decrease of 1% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 9% compared to the previous month. Cumulative retail sales for this year amounted to 11.538 million units, a growth of 2% compared to last year. Wholesale deliveries by domestic passenger vehicle manufacturers totaled 212,000 units nationwide during this period, a decrease of 7% compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 6% compared to the previous month. Cumulative wholesale deliveries for this year reached a total of13.343 million units with a growth rate of 6%.
From August 1st to 6th, the retail sales of new energy vehicles reached 88,000 units, an increase of 38% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 8% compared to the previous month; cumulative retail sales this year reached 3.815 million units, a growth of 36% compared to last year. The wholesale volume of new energy vehicles by domestic passenger car manufacturers nationwide was 78,000 units, a YoY increase of 13%, and a MoM increase of 2%; cumulative wholesale volume this year reached 4.359 million units, a growth of 41%.
In the first week of August, the daily average retail sales of passenger vehicles nationwide were 40,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 1% compared to August last year, and an increase of 9% compared to the previous month.

The global trend of new energy vehicles in 2023 is relatively stable, with a total sales volume of 9.54 million units from January to June. Among them, hybrid vehicles reached 2.32 million units, accounting for 24% of the total. The trend of global new energy passenger cars, excluding conventional hybrids, is even stronger. Influenced by high base numbers and the gradual withdrawal of subsidies in various countries, the trend of global new energy passenger cars in 2023 is strong, reaching 6.05 million units from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 45%. In June alone, it reached 1.28 million units, a year-on-year increase of 43%.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) tated that commercial vehicles account for only 3% of the global new energy vehicle market, while passenger vehicles dominate. The fact that Chinese new energy passenger vehicles accounted for 60% of the global market from January to June 2023 is impressive. In 2023, China’s export of new energy vehicles will be exceptionally strong, showcasing the strength of its industrial chain and achieving dual growth in both domestic and international markets.
According to the data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the retail sales of narrow passenger vehicles in China reached 1.775 million units in July, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3% and a month-on-month decrease of 6.3%. The cumulative sales from January to July were 11.299 million units, an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period last year.
