The Revenue of the Chinese Gaming Market in Q3 Increased Year-On-Year to A Record High
On October 16, the China Audiovisual and Digital Publishing Association’s Game Committee released the latest quarterly report on the Chinese gaming industry for the third quarter of 2024.
The data shows that in the third quarter of 2024, the revenue of China’s gaming market reached 91.766 billion yuan, an increase of 22.96% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 8.95% year-on-year.
The China Audiovisual and Digital Publishing Association pointed out that in this quarter, new mobile games and top products brought significant revenue growth, while “Black Myth: Wukong” also contributed significantly to the standalone and console markets, leading to a record high revenue for the Chinese gaming market.
In the third quarter of this year, actual sales revenue from China’s mobile gaming market reached 65.658 billion yuan, up by 20.20% compared to the previous quarter and up by 1.21% year-on-year; actual sales revenue from China’s client game market was at 16.926 billion yuan, down by 0.39% compared to the previous quarter but up by 0.40% year-on-year.
Actual sales revenue from overseas markets for domestically developed games in China reached $5.169 billion USD, with a quarterly increase of 15.40% and a yearly increase of 20.75%, mainly driven by outstanding performance of “Black Myth: Wukong” in international markets.
To further implement the work requirements of the game supervisory department to promote the healthy development of the gaming industry, and to showcase a group of outstanding game products that promote positive themes and transmit positive energy to society, as well as excellent game companies that actively practice cultural missions and fulfill social responsibilities, the Game Committee of China Audio-Visual Association announced the implementation of the annual “Top Ten Games” list for 2024. The online voting activity started on October 14th and will end at 18:00 on October 18th.
The voting is divided into two categories: product awards and enterprise awards. This year’s popular domestic AAA title “Black Myth: Wukong” has been nominated for four product awards including Outstanding Chinese Traditional Cultural Game, Excellent Game Music Design, Outstanding Social Value Game, and Excellent Client Game.
Its developer, Game Science, has been nominated for three enterprise awards including Excellent Game Technology Innovation Enterprise, Excellent Outbound Gaming Enterprise, and Excellent Game Development Team.
