The Tesla China Team Is Developing A Low-Priced ‘Model Y’ to Cope with Price Competition
According to industry sources, in response to intense market competition, the Tesla China team has led the development of a new vehicle model.
Insiders revealed that the new model is a ‘lower-priced Model Y’. Compared to the current Model Y on sale, there are basically no major changes in areas such as battery, powertrain, and chassis.
Insiders disclosed that this model was developed through a ‘depop’ approach. Depop is an internal development concept at Tesla which involves simplifying configurations to quickly launch products while keeping core functions unchanged.
The leak also mentioned that the release date of these new models will depend on the performance of orders for the refreshed version of Model Y. If sales for the refreshed Model Y fall short of expectations, Tesla may introduce this ‘cheaper Model Y’ in the second half of this year.
