TikTok and Sister App Douyin Exceed 3.3 Billion Downloads Worldwide, Generating Nearly 1000 Related Apps
On Thursday, commercial data provider Sensor Tower released a report saying that short video sharing apps TikTok and its sister app for the Chinese mainland Douyin, operated by Chinese Internet giant ByteDance, have accumulated approximately 3.3 billion installations in the global app stores. Besides, There are more than 900 applications related to TikTok and Douyin.
In terms of application classification, Sensor Tower pointed out that among the applications related to TikTok and Douyin, 49% of the applications focus on video downloading, that is, users can download videos on the platforms to their own devices. The reason for the growth of such applications may be that TikTok users want to forward content to other social media and keep it on their mobile devices.
Another type of application provides analysis of fans and topic tags, as well as the feature of increasing the number of fans and interaction, which accounts for 21% of the total number of TikTok-related applications.
About 6% of related applications are competitors of TikTok and Douyin, which appear as substitutes in order to attract users’ attention. This includes Indian short video platform Josh, which was launched shortly after TikTok was removed from app stores in that country.
