On March 21, Ubisoft and Tencent have reached a strategic agreement in which Tencent will operate, release and promote Ubisoft’s most successful PC and mobile communications products in the Chinese market. The deal reinforces the link between the world’s leading video game developers and China’s largest online gaming and social networking operators.
Ubisoft Entertainment SA is a multinational company engaged in game production, publication and distribution. It is known for publishing several acclaimed video game franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, Rayman, and Tom Clancy’s. Ubisoft is backed by Tencent, who owns five percent of shares.
Western game brands have great opportunities in China, the world’s largest video game market with more than 500 million players nationwide. Ubisoft has the industry’s most diverse and successful portfolio of gaming products, with some of its biggest franchises looking forward to millions of new players in China.
“Tencent is managing China’s largest online gaming community and one of the world’s largest and most active social networks, so the deal will help us significantly increase exposure and participate in China’s gaming industry,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive and co-founder of Ubisoft.
