UNIQLO Has Entered Taobao’s Instant Delivery
The Taobao Instant Delivery channel has launched UNIQLO. By clicking on the merchant’s profile picture, you can go to the UNIQLO Tmall flagship store page. After selecting products, users can choose either delivery or in-store pickup. The delivery time is between 2 to 3 hours and can be scheduled, with a delivery fee of 9 yuan.
Taobao launched the ‘Instant Delivery’ channel in June 2020, entering into competition with Meituan‘s Flash Purchase for local retail. However, the priorities of the two platforms differ. Previously, Meituan invested more effort in attracting various merchants to join. Users can directly purchase retail brand products including Sephora, Muji, and Miniso on Meituan Flash Purchase, and most brands are also willing to collaborate with the platform to expand new channels.
In contrast, most merchants on Taobao’s instant delivery service come from supermarkets and convenience stores, resembling an extension of the retail system. Non-supermarket products, such as those from UNIQLO, have previously appeared mostly in the form of purchasing agents. More than a month ago, Taobao announced an upgrade to its instant delivery service, moving the channel to the top menu bar, increasing traffic to the service, and deepening cooperation with Ele.me, a subsidiary of Alibaba. Taobao also opened the instant delivery business to all Taobao and Tmall merchants with local warehouses.
Since 2015, for several years, UNIQLO has been the top in clothing sales on Tmall’s Double 11. Covering women’s wear, men’s wear, children’s wear, and underwear, UNIQLO’s sales alone can equal the combined sales of several brands in specific categories. However, the UNIQLO store on Taobao’s hourly delivery service is only visible to some users at the moment and is still in the gray testing phase.
