Vivo Launches OriginOS 3 With AI Functions

During its annual developers conference on November 8, Chinese smartphone maker vivo unveiled its Android 13-based OriginOS 3, which commenced internal testing on November 9.

Since its release in 2020, vivo’s OriginOS has gone through three years of evolution. The first batch of upgrades of OriginOS 3 for the vivo X Fold +, iQOO 10 Pro and more smartphone models will be launched on November 25. The second batch of upgrades will start at the end of December, mainly covering the vivo X70 Pro + and iQOO 8 Pro.

With the new OriginOS 3, a smooth system experience is the first priority. In terms of storage, the new system adds a variety of algorithms such as application grouping, data compression, memory aggregation, and more. According to vivo’s tests, on a mobile phone with 12G memory, the maximum number of background applications can reach 34.

In terms of dynamic effects, OriginOS adds motion blur algorithms for real-time compensation. After testing, when the mobile phone runs at a display frame rate of 60 frames, the picture fluency can be improved by 18.7%.

OriginOS 3 adds three new functions: mobile phone health, file system defragmentation and “anti-aging” effects. For example, with the mobile phone health function, users can view statistics on storage and battery condition.

With OriginOS 3, if the system has to shut down a whitelisted app due to insufficient memory, it will record the last state of the app and once the user returns, nothing will be lost.

An icon widget folder has been added and users can tap on the app itself inside the folder to open it. In addition, OriginOS 3 adds smaller weather components and supports 3D weather dynamic effects.

OriginOS 3 also features a new “focus mode,” providing seven preset scenarios, including work, reading, exercise, meditation and others. For example, in the working mode, the mobile phone only reminds the application notifications related to work, while in the meditation mode, a mindfulness hourglass and wallpaper will be displayed in the system.

The new operating system also adds a number of AI functions. In addition to music recognition and AI subtitles, a moiré pattern can be automatically removed when shooting another smartphone screen, and a code will pop up in advance when passing through subway gates.
