Vivo Showcases Four 6G Prototypes
On July 27, Chinese tech firm vivo’s Communications Research Institute released its third 6G white paper titled “6G Services, Capabilities and Enabling Technologies”. The report explores the 6G framework and enabling technologies that vivo experts believe will shape people’s lives beyond 2030. At the same time, vivo also showed four 6G technology prototypes and their current status.
vivo’s latest white paper on 6G builds on two earlier works released in 2020, including ‘Digital Life 2030+’, which provided insights into some of the many potential 6G digital applications for the next decade, and ‘6G Vision, Requirements and Challenges’, which outlined vivo’s vision for 6G, namely that 6G will enable the convergence of the digital and physical worlds.
The white paper proposes that 6G will provide super communication, information, and converged computing services, becoming a base for an interconnected and converged physical and digital world. “6G will allow us to bring the next generation of connectivity into every aspect of people’s lives. It will integrate more access technologies, cover a larger physical space, and provide better core capabilities, supporting more services,” said Rakesh Tamrakar, 5G and 6G Standards Expert at vivo.
In addition, vivo opened the mobile communication laboratory for the first time. Jiang Dajie, director of the communication pre-research team of vivo Communications Research Institute, demonstrated four prototypes including a monitor integrated with communication perception, a target ranging and speed measurement tool integrated with communication perception, an extremely low power consumption communication tool based on backscattering and AI communication.
Among them, the integration of communication and perception is an important enabling technology for the 6G system to provide basic information services. The two prototypes of integrated communication and perception displayed by vivo may be applied to smart transportation, drone monitoring, smart home and health care in the future. In addition, the extremely low-power consumption communication prototype can be used in logistics tracking, cargo inventory, smart home, sensor networks, and environmental monitoring. The AI communication prototype can increase system flexibility and reduce O&M costs.
