Vivo’s iQOO to Enter Indian Market
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is expected to debut their sub-brand iQOO in the Indian market by March 2020, according to 91mobiles. IQOO will exist as an independent entity, similar to Xiaomi’s spin off of their POCO sub-brand in India. IQOO has primarily been limited to the Chinese market since its debut in February 2019. This move from Vivo will only intensify the competition in the Indian flagship smartphone market.
IQOO will continue to develop devices for the premium segment, as the brand is focused on providing high quality performance for an optimized gaming experience. While the specific technical specifications of the iQOO devices are still unknown, the line is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 series chipset. More news on the devices could be released at the upcoming 2020 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this March.
The Indian smartphone market has been dominated by Chinese players recently, as firms like OnePlus, Xiaomi and OPPO occupy increasingly large positions in the sector. According to Counterpoint Research, Vivo and Xiaomi recorded their highest ever market shares in India during the third quarter of 2019 with a 17% and 26% share respectively.
