WeRide Reaches Strategic Cooperation on Robotaxi Commercialization With Car Maker GAC Group and Mobility Platform ONTIME

WeRide, the Level 4 autonomous driving technology company, announces the strategic cooperation with China’s major automobile manufacturer Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC Group) and its subsidiary mobility service platform ONTIME to advance Robotaxi commercialization. 

This strategic trilateral partnership among OEM manufacturer, AI technology and mobility service platform will create a new landscape for the commercialization of WeRide’s Robotaxi.

WeRide and GAC Group have been in cooperation since 2018, together they launched China’s first Robotaxi and started a trial run in Guangzhou. With the commitment from the three parties, this strategic cooperation will elevate their capacity in response to the voluminous potential in smart mobility market. Combining the strength from GAC Group’s A-list vehicle R&D and fully redundant platform, WeRide’s powerful AD solutions and ONTIME’s smart mobility platform, the trio will develop a fleet of top-notch driverless Robotaxis in pursuit of operation and commercialization in the coming years.

Based on GAC AION S model, the latest WeRide Robotaxi is equipped with its up-to-date Sensor Suite 4.0. This Robotaxi is integrated into the ONTIME’s ride hailing platform and they are currently conducting testing. WeRide, GAC Group and ONTIME will co-exhibit this Robotaxi and offer test rides to the public at Auto Guangzhou, starting November 19.

The trio will continue to strengthen their collaboration and empower mobility with AD technology. By 2022, the cutting-edge Robotaxi service will be available to the public via ONTIME’s platform.

Focusing on the collaboration with automobile manufacturers and service platforms, WeRide is now able to offer multiple services in different sectors, ranging from online ride-hailing, on-demand public transportation and urban logistics, fulfilled by the all-rounded product mix of Robotaxi, Mini Robobus and Robovan.

WeRide currently owns a fleet of over 300 autonomous vehicles, through which has accumulated more than 7 million kilometers of AD mileage. Since November 2019, WeRide has launched Robotaxi service to the public in Guangzhou. Through 2 years of operations, covering an area of 144.65 square kilometers, WeRide has become the most experienced technology firm in the area.
