White Rhino Passes Key International Standards Test for L4 Autonomous Driving
Chinese technology firm White Rhino announced on Thursday that it has passed the first international safety standards test for L4 automated driving systems (“ISO 22737”) in the presence of TÜV Rheinland, an internationally renowned third-party testing, inspection and certification organization.
ISO 22737 was developed by the ISO technical committee, and is now the first and only international standard for L4 automated driving systems.
The standard targets low-speed automated driving (LSAD) along predefined routes, and puts forward corresponding regulations regarding vehicles’ performance, systems and testing procedures.
White Rhino was established in 2019, and is now the first company in China to run unmanned delivery for supermarkets and fresh food stores using L4 automated driving. Its unmanned vehicles are equipped with the LSAD driving system developed independently with a team led by Xia Tian, co-founder and CTO of White Rhino. To date, the company has partnered with leading domestic supermarkets and local instant delivery platforms such as Yonghui Superstore, Rainbow, and DADA Group, as well as local real-time delivery platforms. It now provides daily deliveries for supermarkets and fresh food stores in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Upon approval of the test, Xia Tian said, “Standardization work is crucial to the sound development of the automated driving industry. ISO 22737 sets out scientific requirements for the barrier avoidance capability, access capability and safety performance of automated driving systems at L4. It is a recognition of our ability to be the first domestic automated driving company to pass the ISO 22737 scenario assessment test.”
