Feng Ji, founder of Game Science, recently revealed a significant decision regarding the future development of the highly anticipated game project Black Myth: Wukong. It is reported that the team had initially begun preparations for the game's DLC (Downloadable Content) production, aiming to continue the success story of Wukong and bring more exciting content to players. However, now they decide to shift focus to New Title Black Myth: Zhong Kui. According to Feng Ji, Black Myth: Zhong Kui will bring players brand-new hero characters, gameplay mechanics, visual effects, technologies, and a compelling storyline. At the same time, Feng Ji stated that the complete story of Black Myth: Wukong will not be forgotten. The team will present it to players in a more solid and perfect manner once they are fully prepared.

For a long time after the release of Black Myth: Wukong, I felt like I was wandering in a fog. Something I’d dreamed of for nearly 20 years had finally come to fruition—and the result far exceeded my initial expectations.
Logically, I should have been rolling around with joy, humming tunes every day. Unfortunately, that’s not how human nature is wired. Intense positive emotions seem to fade so quickly; happiness blinks by in an instant.
What lingered in my mind during that period was mostly confusion, emptiness, and anxiety (I know this sounds melodramatic, so please don’t judge too harshly). No matter how ashamed I felt about “not being able to feel happy,” these emotions kept crashing in—especially when I was flooded with questions like, “Is the DLC being made? Who’s working on it? When will it release?”
As a professional adult, I’m good at hiding these negative feelings. I told myself to cheer up and get down to work on the DLC. Because I knew full well: everyone asking about the DLC is undoubtedly someone who loves Black Myth, someone who cares about Game Science, someone who helped lift us up along the way. So, in the six months or so after launch, I locked down some directions, wrote some lore, held meetings, and the team got into a steady rhythm following the “DLC first” plan.
_This continued until one day this year, when Yang Qi messaged me in the morning saying, “I have something important I want to discuss with you.” I happened to be out of the office that day, so we arranged to talk in the evening. _
When I saw him later, my first question was, “You don’t want to do the DLC anymore, do you? You want to make something new?” With relief, eagerness, and perfect naturalness, we hit it off immediately. Then, we started convincing the other team members one by one. And now, here we are—with Black Myth: Zhong Kui that you see today.
The DLC was certainly not a bad option, but right now, we want to make a new Black Myth title first: A new hero, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, new story. Unshackling our hands and feet, taking bold risks, breaking free from fixed patterns, starting from scratch.
Many might think the DLC is safer, steadier, clearer, faster to deliver. But the fan creations I’ve seen are already more wild, imaginative, and unrestrained than our original DLC ideas. Like all of you, I deeply love the world of demons, gods, and Buddhas in Journey to the West. So Wukong’s legend will return someday—in a more complete, solid form—once we’re fully prepared.
In Iwata-san, Nintendo’s late president once said: “There is no future in merely extending what already exists.” Where there’s the unknown, there’s surprise; where there’s challenge, there’s joy. Game Science will carry your love and wishes forward, continuing to deliver each new work with care.
