Xiaomi 12 Smartphone Series to Launch Soon, CEO Lei Jun Assures the Brand Will Develop “Fast and More Steadily”

The Founder and CEO of Chinese electronics firm Xiaomi announced on Tuesday that the Xiaomi 12 smartphone series and the brand-new MIUI 13 operating system will be released at 19:30 on December 28.

According to the models used by Lei himself, firm Senior Vice President Lu Weibing and product director of Xiaomi‘s Redmi Wang Teng to post the news on domestic microblogging platform Weibo, the three models in the Xiaomi 12 series are the Xiaomi 12X, Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Lei also announced on December 20 that Wei Siqi, the former Xiaomi Civi series product manager, will be in charge of Xiaomi‘s digital series products. This is expected to result in some more fashionable color options for the Xiaomi 12X, similar to the Xiaomi youth edition.

According to previously leaked information, the Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 12 are more likely to be small-screen flagship models. The Xiaomi 12X will likely be equipped with a Snapdragon 870 chip, while the Xiaomi 12 will be equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen1, with the latter supporting 67W fast charging. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is also expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, supporting 120W fast charging.

The firm released its Xiaomi 11 model on December 28 last year, which was then launched on January 1 of this year, before it released the Xiaomi 11 Pro and Ultra on March 29, 2021. It is, therefore, expected that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and other products may be launched next year.

In addition, Lei Jun also posted a speech written before the release of the Xiaomi 12 and MIUI13 via Weibo on December 21. 

Lei said, “This year is the 11th year that Xiaomi and Mi Fans have gone through together. In this year, we have faced many unprecedented challenges, made a lot of progress and suffered more twists and turns. More importantly, we have seen more clearly our shortcomings and various difficulties and problems that need to be solved urgently. In addition, we have seen everyone’s expectations and a new journey full of hope.”
