Xiaomi 12S Smartphone Series to Debut July 4
Xiaomi Chairman and CEO Lei Jun announced on Tuesday that the consumer electronics firm’s imaging strategic upgrades and a new product launch event is scheduled for 7:00 pm on July 4, during which the new Xiaomi 12S smartphone series will be launched.
Lei Jun said: “Together with our new imaging concept and the future development direction of Xiaomi Imaging, the Xiaomi 12S series jointly developed by Xiaomi and Leica will start from here, to bring brand-new experiences.”
Last month, Xiaomi announced that it had reached a global imaging strategic cooperation with Leica, and the first resulting work would be released in July. The company said that this cooperation involves the whole link of smartphone imaging from optics, image processing and experience, which is a comprehensive integration of the imaging capabilities of both sides. Leica also sent a team of engineers to Beijing to work side by side with Xiaomi engineers.
Previously leaked information shows that the Xiaomi 12S series will include the Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra, among which only the Xiaomi 12S Ultra may be equipped with cameras produced in cooperation with Leica.
As for their main configurations, the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chip, while the Xiaomi 12S Pro will have two options, including a Snapdragon 8+ version and a Dimensity 9000 series version.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is expected to have a 32 MP front camera, with a 50 MP Sony IMX989 sensor, a 48 MP wide-angle camera and a 48 MP 120-fold hybrid zoom periscope telephoto lens in the rear. This model will also have a new Surge C2 ISP.
