Xiaomi Auto’s Senior Engineer Rumored to Receive Annual Salary of $93,693 with $156,155 in Share Options
China Business News reported on Sunday that an appointment letter of a senior engineer from Xiaomi Auto has been exposed on the Internet. The letter shows that this senior engineer has a monthly salary of 40,000 yuan ($6,246) and an annual bonus of 120,000 yuan, which is equivalent to a total annual salary of 600,000 yuan. In addition, the engineer obtained a share option valued at 1 million yuan.
A person inside Xiaomi Auto told China Business News that the letter of appointment circulated on the internet was incomplete, so its authenticity could not be confirmed. However, as far as the source knows, the numbers mentioned in the letter are true, and the annual salary and share option of some core technicians have reached millions of yuan and tens of millions of yuan, respectively.
According to the appointment letter, the senior engineer’s position is at level 17 in the company. In the current internal management structure of Xiaomi, level 17 is at the managerial level. As for the employee incentive plan, the engineer needs to wait for five years to achieve some performance acquirement before obtaining the 1 million yuan in shares option.
In mid-October, Lei Jun, Chairman of Xiaomi, announced that Xiaomi Auto had completed its registration on September 1, and the first factory would land in Yizhuang, Beijing. At present, there are 453 R&D personnel on duty. Lei Jun said Xiaomi‘s car and team’s work has far exceeded his expectations. It is expected that Xiaomi’s car will be officially mass-produced in the first half of 2024.

According to data released by Liepin.com, since the beginning of this year, in the automobile industry, the demand for jobs such as autonomous driving R&D and intelligent cockpit design has increased by more than 1.8 times year-on-year. In the first half of this year, among the top ten jobs in the new energy automobile industry, perceptual algorithm, AI and autonomous driving algorithm engineers occupied half of the seats.
In the first half of 2021, the number of new jobs in the field of new energy vehicles increased by 94.54% compared with the same period in 2020 and 60.12% compared with the same period in 2019.
