BEIJING, November 23 – Xiaomi Corporation has officially addressed online rumors regarding a "battery production line fire" at its automotive factory, confirming a minor incident occurred in 2024 during pre-production debugging but firmly denying any inherent battery defects.
According to a company spokesperson, the situation arose in the battery workshop when an operator error during manual-mode debugging caused a battery pack, transported via an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV), to collide with equipment. This resulted in a scratched cell, leading to a short circuit and a small, localized flame.
The plant's emergency protocol was immediately activated, and the fire was extinguished swiftly. Xiaomi emphasized that the incident was contained without spreading to other production areas and no personnel were injured.
The company explicitly stated that the event resulted from a procedural deviation during debugging and is not indicative of any design flaws, material issues, or manufacturing defects in its batteries. All battery packs for Xiaomi vehicles, including those for the SU7 and YU7 models, are developed to exceed stringent standards and fully comply with national battery safety requirements.
Xiaomi also investigated and dismissed a separate viral video purportedly showing a "battery workshop incident wall," clarifying that the images were from an early 2024 management board tracking initial debugging issues, all of which were resolved long before mass production began.
