Lei Jun, Xiaomi founder and CEO, announced the inauguration of Xiaomi’s new Scientific and Technological Park on the microblogging platform Weibo on July 10. Lei Jun accompanied the statement with a number of photos of the new headquarters, as well as various snapshots from the inauguration.
The center is located in Beijing’s Haidian district along with head offices of other tech giants such as Lenovo and Baidu, among others. In total, the park consists of eight structures covering an area of 340,000 square meters and cost the company 5.2 billion yuan($755 million).
To staff the new compound, Xiaomi will employ new engineers and will lead the development of artificial intelligence, IoT, big data and cloud technology. In addition, its head office will provide information support, retail, e-commerce and even part of Xiaomi’s financial activities.
The new headquarters of the Chinese tech giant is the result of the enormous growth the brand has seen in recent years, which in turn requires an increase in headcount. In order to accommodate the growing number of employees, the company has chosen to relocate.
