Xiaomi Launches Camera Glasses, Starting From $370
On August 1, Beijing-based consumer electronics giant Xiaomi released a new glasses product named “Mi Glasses Camera.” The suggested retail price is 2,699 yuan ($400), while the crowdfunding price is only 2,499 yuan ($370). Crowdfunding will start at 10:00 am on August 3. During this period, a limited amount of 299-yuan sunglasses will be given away.
The product weighs 100g. It is equipped with a 50MP Quad Bayer four-in-one wide-angle camera and an 8MP periscope telephoto camera with split OIS optical anti-shake for the first time, which does not need to connect external devices through a cable and brings strong image computing capabilities.
The wide-angle main camera can realize filming in the first angle of view, while the periscope telephoto lens can realize 5x optical zoom and 15x mixed zoom to make long shots. Equipped with a 1020mAh battery, it can achieve 3.3 hours of typical use and 100 minutes of video recording, and the charging time from 0% to 80% is less than 30 minutes. For the first time, the company integrates the complete smartphone periscope dual camera system into the compact smart glasses form, which greatly improves the shooting ability of glasses products.
The product also brings some practical functions and a variety of intelligent AR functions. For example, “time backtracking” can save videos within 10 seconds before shooting when pressing the shutter, and supports one-click sharing to users’ social platforms, which is more convenient than shooting with smartphones while at sports events, concerts, camping, travel and other scenarios.

Xiaomi previously developed a translation tool called “Xiaoai,” which can provide real-time English-Chinese translation. Now it is available in China and supports more than six languages overseas. New functions including video projection will be launched one after another with software upgrades in the future.
In terms of privacy and security, photos and videos on the smart glasses are transmitted with Xiaomi‘s app and will not be stored in the cloud. In order to protect the privacy of users, the product also has an LED shooting indicator on the front of the camera body, which will light up to remind others when taking pictures or recording videos.
