Xiaomi Mi Band 3 Will Release in May with New Touchscreen Functions and NFC Support

Recently, Xiaomi‘s official Twitter account posted a teaser image with the question “Can you guess what it is?” The teaser debuts the brand new Mi Band 3.

Some Chinese netizen brightened the teaser image to better visualize the new band’s appearance. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, was probably wearing this new band in the photo accidentally captured during the launch event for Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming phone.

Although the overall design style is not drastically different from other fitness wearables, the Mi Band 3 will be equipped with a larger OLED screen. A digital enthusiast from Sina Weibo revealed that the new band would support smart touchscreen, meaning users can switch between different functions with the slide of a finger.

A source also revealed that the Mi Band 3 will support Near Field Communication (NFC), which expands its potential use case. Currently, Xiaomi smartphone users can swipe the phone to pay for public transportation or bind it with electronic key cards to access doors.
