Xiaomi Ranks First in Q2 Smartphone Shipments in India
On July 21, market research firm Canalys announced the totals of India’s smartphone shipments for the second quarter of this year.
In Q2, a total of 36.4 million smartphones were shipped in India, down 5% from Q1. In Q2, a new round of COVID-19 pandemic broke out, but the market weathered the storm better than last year’s Q2, with shipments increasing 12% year-on-year.
There are four Chinese companies in the top five shipments. Xiaomi maintained its leading position in the Indian market, with shipments of 7 million units in Q2; Samsung ranked second with shipments of 6.7 million units; Realme ranked third (6.1 million units); Vivo and OPPO ranked fourth and fifth with 6 million and 5.5 million units respectively.
Xiaomi’s Redmi India officially announced on July 20 that it shipped a total of 200 million smartphones in India, reaching a new milestone. Xiaomi also said that in the past year, it released fifteen types of 5G smartphones in the Indian market, laying down a foundation for a broader 5G rollout in the country.

More than a month ago, Xiaomi‘s Indian division completed a round of organizational adjustment. Alvin Tse, former general manager of Xiaomi Indonesia Company, took up the post of general manager of the company, while Manu Kumar Jain, who was in charge before, moved into a global role, aiming at international strategy as vice president of the group.
Xiaomi India appointed Muralikrishnan B, its Chief Operating Officer, as its new president. The new president will be responsible for day-to-day operations, services, public affairs and strategic projects. This appointment will take effect on August 1, 2022.
