Xiaomi Ranks Fourth Again: Shipments up 96.9% Year-on-Year
Well-known market research firm IDC released its Q4 2017 global handset shipments report on February 1. The document shows Apple surpassed Samsung as the world’s largest smartphone maker. And that Xiaomi returned to fourth place with shipments up 96.9 percent over the same period last year.

Top Five Smartphone Company
IDC statistics show that Apple shipped 77.3 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017, with a market share of 19.2 percent. It was down 1.3 percent year-on-year. But as global smartphone shipments are in a downward trend, Apple still ranks first.
In the fourth quarter of 2017, Samsung shipped 74.1 million units with a market share of 18.4 percent – a year-on-year decline of 4.4 percent, making it rank second. Huawei shipped 41 million units, and its market share was 10.2 percent, down 9.7 percent from the previous year, ranking third.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi is the most prominent among all manufacturers. In Q4, it shipped 28.1 million units, with a market share of 7 percent, up 96.9 percent from the same period last year, ranking fourth.
When the IDC report was released, Lei Jun wrote on Weibo that, “In the fourth quarter of 2017, Xiaomi rose to fourth in the world in terms of mobile phone sales! Against a backdrop of 6.3 percent overall decline, Xiaomi still was up 96.9 percent.”
