Chinese smart devices maker Xiaomi has announced that it will be launching a new smartphone featuring an unprecedented 100-megapixel sensor as the main sensor.
The company has stated that its mission is to popularize the use of large sensors on smartphones in order to elevate the overall mobile photography and videography experience for users. The new smartphone, titled Xiaomi CC9 Pro, will be launched and mass produced on November 5, according to the Chinese smartphone company.
Xiaomi explained that it worked closely with Samsung to customize a large 1/1.33-inch sensor. Size-wise, the sensor is the same as the 48-megapixel variant commonly used across smartphones in the market, but uses a 0.8um pixel unit size, boasting a much larger sensor area for processing additional light when taking photos.
Xiaomi added that the new sensor may be the largest the industry has seen in terms of camera pixel count.
Concurrently with the launch of Xiaomi CC 9 Pro, the company has also announced that it will be unveiling its first Xiaomi Watch and a new iteration of its Xiaomi TV 5 on November 5.
