Xiaomi will unveil the Xiaomi 17 series on Sept 25. Lei Jun’s “Change” keynote will dive into Xiaomi’s in-house chips and Xiaomi Auto EV progress.
Xiaomi will launch its Xiaomi 17 smartphone line at 7:00 p.m. on September 25, Chairman and CEO Lei Jun said in a post on Weibo. The series will include three models at launch: Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Lei also confirmed he will deliver his sixth annual keynote that evening, themed “Change,” with segments on Xiaomi’s in-house “Xuanjie” chips and Xiaomi Auto.
According to Xiaomi’s promotional materials, the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will debut a new top-tier Snapdragon 8-class mobile platform and introduce a “back display” design aimed at tighter multi-device integration. Lei has positioned the 17 series as a step-change in product capability intended to compete head-to-head with the iPhone.
Xiaomi President Lu Weibing addressed naming and pricing speculation in a livestream, saying all three initial models will use triple-camera setups with a recessed ultrawide lens, the standard model would add features without raising price, and a Xiaomi 17 Ultra is planned. He added there will be no ultra-thin “Air” version this time.
Lei has previously said Xiaomi’s chip effort is central to its ambition to be a “hard-tech” company. As of late April, cumulative R&D spending on the Xuanjie program exceeded RMB 13.5 billion, with more than 2,500 people on the team; chip R&D this year is expected to top RMB 6 billion, he said.
