Xiaomi’s Mi 9 Removed From Official Website Only 9 Months After Release

The Mi 9, a highly praised budget-friendly flagship released by Xiaomi in February, was abruptly removed from the phone-maker’s official website on December 1. The shortest lived flagship in Xiaomi’s history received acclaim from users and pundits alike for its affordable price and top of the line Snapdragon 855 processor.

The sudden removal of the phone from all the official online retail channels may mark the start of Xiaomi’s transition towards producing more high-end products. A search for the Mi 9 on the official website currently only returns two results, the Mi 9 Pro 5G and Mi CC9 Pro. Both phones, including the Mi CC9 Pro equipped with a relatively weak Snapdragon 730G processor, are priced above 3,000 yuan (roughly $430), positioning them towards the top of Xiaomi’s price range.

Xiaomi has previously mentioned that in the future the company aspires to create the image of a high-end manufacturer, while the more affordable products will be marketed under their Redmi sub-brand.
