Xiaomi’s Mobile Payment Mi Pay Debuts in India
Not resting on its laurels, Xiaomi, launched Mi Pay, a digital payment service platform in India on Dec. 19. Meanwhile, the company is welcoming beta testers for Mi Pay by the end of this year (IST).
As a joint effort by both Xiaomi and Indian companies, the service is supported by ICICI Bank and PayU. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has cleared Mi Pay for large group usage, while WhatsApp is reported to be limited to one million users group.

With Mi Pay, customers will be able to make payments using UPI, debit cards, credit cards, and Internet Banking. They can also pay for utilities including phone bills/recharge, DTH recharge, water bills, electricity bills.
To begin with, Mi Pay would be integrated in Contacts, SMS and Scanner apps as well as App Vault in MIUI, Xiaomi‘s Android interface. Mi Pay has been available in China since 2016.
Xiaomi topped India smartphone market in the third quarter of 2018 with 11.7 million shipments, according to IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
