Xiaomi’s Third Car Model May Be A Plug-In Hybrid SUV, Set to Launch in 2026
According to multiple sources, it is learned that Xiaomi plans to launch its third model in 2026 – an extended-range SUV targeting family users.
The report quoted informed sources as saying that this car has undergone two revised plans during the pre-research stage, showing Xiaomi‘s high expectations for it. In addition, on the third car, Xiaomi is trying an innovative business model, using consumer electronics-grade hardware to replace auto-grade components that do not involve functional safety. At the same time, unlike traditional car manufacturers’ approach of pre-installing components on cars, after delivering the bare vehicle, users are allowed to choose and assemble their own vehicles.
According to the previous plan, Xiaomi‘s release schedule is three cars in three years, namely the all-electric sedan Xiaomi SU7 in 2024, the all-electric SUV in 2025, and the extended-range SUV in 2026. It is reported that after releasing the Xiaomi SU7 at the end of March, Xiaomi plans to reveal more information about the new car models at a new product launch event in July.
At present, the best-selling home-use extended-range SUV on the market is Li Auto, with a single-month sales volume in June approaching 50,000 units. Xiaomi‘s third car will directly compete with Li Auto, aiming to gain a foothold in the home-use extended-range SUV market.
It is reported that Xiaomi‘s third car will take on the task of low-price high-volume. According to a previous report, Xiaomi‘s third car is initially planned to be around 150,000 yuan, and there are strict cost requirements internally for the third car.
Insiders also said that in the next second and third car models, Xiaomi will emphasize its intelligence capabilities, and the intelligent cockpit may also synchronously use its self-developed AI OS system.
Although Xiaomi started late in the car manufacturing industry, its powerful ecosystem is its biggest competitive advantage. Xiaomi has already made a comprehensive layout in the automotive supply chain, investing in nearly 50 companies in the automotive field, which allows Xiaomi to provide accessories to users at lower prices.
