XPeng Motors AI Day Highlights Summary
At the XPeng AI Day held on the evening of May 20, XPeng Motors showcased its latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence and announced a series of innovative technologies. The launch of these technologies marks an important step for XPeng Motors in intelligent driving and vehicle intelligence.
First, XPeng Motors launched a full update of the AI Tianji system. It is expected that by the third quarter of 2024, this system will be able to cover every street in the country. This update will allow XPeng Motors’ users to enjoy the convenience of intelligent driving in a wider range of areas.
In terms of hardware, XPeng Motors’ XNet perception system increases the sensing distance by 2 times, able to identify over 50 targets, covering an area equivalent to 1.8 soccer fields. The XBrain system can recognize waiting areas and tidal lanes, read road signs, and infer the intentions of traffic participants. The performance of the XPlanner system in complex scenarios is becoming more like that of an experienced driver, reducing incidents such as jerks, stalls, and safety takeovers by nearly 50%.
XPeng Motors also announced that by the third quarter of 2024, its intelligent driving system will be able to cover every road nationwide. By 2025, the urban driving experience will be comparable to highway driving experience achieving a level similar to L4 autonomous driving. He Xiaopeng stated that XPeng Motors’ end-to-end large model aims for iterations every two days with a goal to increase autonomous driving capabilities by 30 times within 18 months.
In terms of investment in AI technology, XPeng Motors plans to invest 3.5 billion yuan by 2024 for intelligent research and development, and will increase the annual computing power training input to over 700 million yuan. In addition, XPeng Motors also plans to recruit 4,000 new employees in 2024.

XPeng Motors’ AI Tianji system will also achieve a personalized comprehensive intelligent experience. Combining multimodal large models, Xiaopeng can perceive and understand the real physical world outside the car, assisting in fulfilling command needs during the vehicle usage process. AI Xiaopeng can insightfully infer user demands; AI driving assistance can observe and learn users’ driving habits; while AI parking can provide a fast, time-saving, and effortless parking experience.
In addition, XPeng Motors also announced the global debut of AI driving function, which can actively observe and learn users’ driving habits, enabling one-click activation of commuting intelligent driving. It learns users’ route preferences and driving styles. The AI parking function can adapt to extremely narrow parking spaces, achieving remote control-free parking and welcoming guests out of the garage.
In terms of safety, XPeng Motors’ AEB capability continues to evolve, providing customizable sensitivity, super perception ability, proactive and timely reminders, and braking capabilities at 80km/h. The new Sentry mode has a 90% accuracy rate and allows users to view and record the scene before the incident on their mobile phones.
Finally, XPeng Motors announced what could be an epic OTA upgrade, including over 1,000 new features, more than 5,000 experience optimizations, and a 13,000-word upgrade guide. This upgrade will be fully rolled out on the XPeng X9/G9/P7i/G6 models and is planned to undergo public testing for the XPeng P7 in the third quarter of 2024 and for the XPeng P5/G3i/G3 in the first quarter of 2025.
XPeng Motors also teased the upcoming debut of the first model in its MONA series set to launch in June. This will mark another significant milestone for XPeng Motors’ product lineup.
