XPeng Presents New EV Architecture That Will Debut in G6 SUV
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng Motors revealed its latest EV architecture on April 16. The company aims to achieve a balance between cost, efficiency, experience, and globalization with the new SEPA 2.0 platform that will reduce XPeng‘s future development cycle for new vehicles by 20% and enable up to 80% interchangeability of common components across different models.
“The automobile industry’s elimination has just started, and selling 3 million vehicles annually will only grant car companies entry. The sales of fuel cars are expected to decline rapidly next year. In the coming decade, China is predicted to have only eight major car companies,” stated He Xiaopeng, CEO and Chairman of XPeng. “Companies that aim to produce mid-to-low-end models may need to achieve an annual sales volume of 5 million units.”
XPeng has announced that the SEPA 2.0 architecture integrates its core technologies in charging, intelligent systems, and vehicle manufacturing. Vehicles built on this architecture will be equipped with an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) platform as a standard feature. This technology enables vehicles to achieve a cruising range of up to 200km after just five minutes of charging.
The SEPA 2.0 system is equipped with the XNGP intelligent assisted driving system, which enhances smart driving research and development efficiency by 30% and reduces adaptation costs by 70%.
The SEPA 2.0 architecture boasts several additional features, including front and rear integrated aluminum die-casting technology that allows for more uniform fabrication of the car body, and CIB (Cell Integrated Body) technology that optimizes cabin design by adding vertical space. The SEPA 2.0 is versatile and can be used with multiple R&D platforms, expanding to various types of vehicles such as sedans, sports cars, SUVs, MPVs, pickups, etc.
XPeng has announced that the SEPA 2.0 will debut beneath the G6 SUV during its unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18.

XPeng‘s release of the SEPA 2.0 architecture is driven by its focus on cost control. He Xiaopeng stated that the company plans to launch approximately 10 new models in the near future with improved efficiency and higher quality at lower costs. However, financial reports for 2022 reveal that XPeng has a gross profit margin per vehicle of 9.4%, while Li Auto and NIO have margins of 19.1% and 13.7%, respectively.
