XPeng Responds to Delayed Delivery of P5 EV Model

In recent months, new owners of the 460 version of XPeng’s P5 electric vehicle model across China have encountered delays in delivery due to tight supply of vehicle batteries and other components.

One buyer complained that XPeng had failed to deliver the car on time, which led to his loss of the qualification to enjoy a subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,581) in Guangzhou. Some buyers suspect XPeng of discriminating against consumers. “From December 2021 to January 2022, orders for 550 version and 600 version of the P5 model booked in December have been delivered. Why do the orders for 460 version get delayed?”

XPeng‘s spokesperson said: “Users whose orders got delayed can choose to refund, change to another model or continue to wait. There is no compensation plan at present.”

The reason behind the delivery of the P5 model is that XPeng‘s battery supply is insufficient, especially the ferrous lithium phosphate battery used in P5’s 460 version. The 550 version and 600 version are equipped with ternary lithium battery, which is one of the reasons why these two versions can be delivered faster than the 460 version.

As early as May 2021, He Xiaopeng, chairman of XPeng, revealed that the ferrous lithium phosphate battery was in short supply, causing uncertainties in terms of production. However, He said that more ferrous lithium phosphate batteries will be applied in the future, which will greatly increase the company’s gross profit.
