Zack Resigns as Head of Kuaishou’s Southeast Asian Market
Chinese media outlet LatePost reported on Wednesday that “Zack,” the former head of Kuaishou’s Southeast Asian market, resigned in February this year. The employee joined Kuaishou in August 2019, and was previously in charge of product business at Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. and APUS.
During his stint at Kuaishou, Zack first took charge of the Latin American market. Then, he created SnackVideo, a product specifically geared towards the Southeast Asian market.
In August 2021, Kuaishou restructured its international business. The firm launched three products for different countries and regional markets, with three separate teams in charge. Zack was the head of the Southeast Asia market, while Shao Kai and Xu Zhiwei were in charge of Latin America and the Middle East respectively. All of them reported to Qiu Guangyu, Head of the Kuaishou International Business Division.
After the restructuring, the three teams were merged, and the products of different markets were integrated into Kwai. Shao Kai was appointed as the head of international operation, and Xu Zhiwei became the head of international products. Zack transferred to domestic business within Kuaishou. At present, Zack and Shao Kai have both resigned, and newcomers have joined Kuaishou Overseas to fill the vacancies.

According to an individual close to Kuaishou, the departure of several business leaders is related to the development of Kuaishou’s internationalization in 2021. At the beginning of 2021, the Kuaishou International Division set the goal of breaking 100 million of daily active users (DAU), but it failed. In October 2021, the International Division adjusted its strategy, shifting the direction of user growth from acquiring new users to retaining old users through refined operations. Moreover, the plan to enter new markets was temporarily suspended.
