Zeekr to Enter the Japanese Market in 2025

In a recent interview with Japanese media, Chen Yu, the Vice President of Zeekr, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Geely, announced Zeekr’s plans to enter the Japanese market by 2025. Currently, Zeekr has penetrated nearly 30 international markets, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Thailand, and Mexico, with ambitions to expand to 50 countries by the end of 2024. This expansion plan encompasses regions such as Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America. Moreover, deliveries of the right-hand drive version of the Zeekr X have already begun in markets like Thailand and Singapore.

During the Tokyo Advanced Technology Exhibition in July, Zeekr showcased the Zeekr007, offering an all-encompassing view of its chassis, body, design, parts, and systems. The design and technology of Zeekr received positive feedback at the Japanese exhibition, but it is not without competition. Xiaomi Auto, another prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, also aims to enter the Japanese market in 2025.

According to Zeekr’s most recent sales figures, the company delivered 15,655 units in July alone, marking a 30% year-on-year increase. From January to July, a total of 103,525 units were delivered, reflecting an 89% year-on-year increase. As of the end of July, Zeekr achieved a cumulative delivery of 300,000 vehicles in just 33 months, setting a record for the fastest growth among new electric vehicle brands.
