Zhipu AI has released Z Code, a lightweight desktop AI-assisted code editor designed to lower the barrier to using AI programming agents through a visual interface.
At its core, Z Code deeply integrates AI agents and allows developers to seamlessly switch between leading tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini. Developers can drive coding, analysis, and debugging tasks through natural language interactions.
The editor emphasizes human–AI collaboration, with key features including: “Thinking Mode”, which allows the agent to self-analyze and refine its reasoning before responding
History Reconstruction, enabling users to modify and re-execute any previous conversation step to fine-tune agent behavior
Granular Permission Controls, requiring explicit user approval before the agent performs high-risk actions such as file edits or command-line execution
