290 XPeng P7 Owners Demand Unfulfilled OTA Upgrade
On November 8th, 290 XPeng Motors P7 owners in China jointly wrote a letter to XPeng Motors CEO He Xiaopeng, expressing concerns about the unfulfilled promises of OTA upgrades and other issues.
XPeng Motors had previously promoted that the P7 Premium Edition would come standard with XPILOT 3.0 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), and later be upgraded to XPILOT 4.0 ADAS. However, up until now, XPeng has not provided any information on when the XPILOT 4.0 upgrade will be available.
At a “Tech Day” event on October 24th, XPeng announced that its XNGP (Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot) would support autonomous driving in 25 to 50 cities by the end of this year, but the P7 model is excluded from this update.
In the letter, the owners complained that they have been abandoned by XPeng, and their trust for the brand taken for granted. The owners wrote that hey had frequently complained to customer service about the car’s slow startup, interface lag, built-in app lag, frequent crashes, and navigation positioning failures, but XPeng chose to ignore these issues.
In fact, there have been numerous cases of car machine systems and subsequent OTA problems caused by hardware, and some car companies have provided corresponding solutions. For example, in July, 2022, due to frequent complaints about the car machine system, Zeekr invested over 300 million yuan to offer free 8155 chip upgrades to Zeekr 001 owners.
Regarding the issue of the delayed implementation of the CNGP (City Navigation Auxiliary Driving) that XPeng P5 car owners jointly reflected, the official solution was to offer a 20,000 yuan Intelligent Driving Pre-Enjoyment Voucher for current XPeng P5 P-version owners who have obtained the XPILOT 3.5 intelligent auxiliary driving software. At the same time, it promised to continue OTA for the P5 model and gradually launch intelligent scene, steering assistance, sentry mode optimization and other functions in 2024.
So far, XPeng Motors has not responded to this joint letter from XPeng P7 owners.
