The APEX 2019 is also known for its codename “Waterdrop” because the phone features no ports, grooves, or lines of separation, and looks more like a metallic pebble than anything.
Specs-wise, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, comes in 256GB or 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and 5G, a big anticipation for lots.
Now, the phone features a series of major tech highlights including in-display fingerprint unlock anywhere on the display, pressure-sensitive buttons instead of the traditional power and volume controls, vibration-based sound output, and a magnetic charging cable on the phone’s rear cover.
The AMOLED display of the Apex 2019 doubles as the speaker by using a piezoelectric transducer to emit sound. It’s surrounded by very thin bezels with no selfie camera, a rather bold decision by Vivo.
The finger on display (FOD) technology used on the APEX 2019 is unprecedented among smartphone manufactures as users are able to unlock the phone anywhere on the screen, making it the most advanced FOD so far.
Since the Apex 2019 is still a concept phone, the configuration upon market release may still change.
The phone will be shown at MWC 2019 in Barcelona in February. No further information on the phone’s price and availability are given at this moment.
