Xiaomi Unveils Rest of Mi 11 Series Lineup Including Mi 11 Ultra with Second Display Next To Rear Cameras

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Wednesday unveiled the rest of its Mi 11 flagship family, as well as a next-generation fitness band and a gaming Wi-Fi router.

Aptly calling the event a “Mega Launch”, Xiaomi showed off its premium flagship Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11i and Mi 11 Lite. It had in late December launched the Mi 11 – the first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor – in China and global markets.

Mi 11 Ultra

The hefty Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, the brand’s fanciest consumer phone to date, has a 6.81-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen with a 3200 x 1440 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The top-of-the-line device is aimed at international markets and is primed to compete directly with Samsung and Apple models.

Next to the rear camera bump that takes up nearly the entire width of the phone, there is a second screen — a small 1.1-inch AMOLED display with 126 x 294 resolution. It is mainly used for notifications and alerts when the phone is placed face-down, as well as a viewfinder for users to take selfies with the main camera.

As for its trio of cameras, there is a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 128-degree field-of-view, and a 48-megapixel periscope camera. The selfie camera on the front carries a 20-megapixel sensor.

The phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 888 chipset and runs its MIUI 12 based on Android 11. It is being offered in white and black, measuring 8.38mm in thickness and weighing in at 234g.

Prices start at 5,999 yuan ($914) and can go up to 6,999 yuan ($1,066) for a higher specs version. It is expected to launch globally in the near future.

Mi 11 Pro

The Mi 11 Pro was the first device to be unveiled at the launch, with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun touting the phone as the “King of Android” with its top-notch features.

The smartphone has the same 6.81-inch quad curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Other features including the Snapdragon 888 chipset and the MIUI 12.5 software – the same as the Mi 11 Ultra. However, there is no secondary display on the back of the Mi 11 Pro.

For its camera system, it is the first device to pack Samsung’s 50-megapixel GN2 camera sensor, with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle secondary camera and 8-megapixel telemacro camera. The device comes with a 20-megapixel front camera.

Color options include black, green and purple, and prices start at 4,999 yuan ($761).

Both the Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro will have 5,000 mAh batteries with 67W wired and wireless charging. Thanks to these new silicon-oxygen anode batteries, it will only take 36 minutes to fully charge.

The Mi 11 Ultra will be launched globally, whereas the Mi 11 Pro will only be available in China.

Mi 11i

Launched exclusively for the global market, the Mi 11i is equipped with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and supports the latest generation Wi-Fi 6 to maintain high-speed, low latency and stable Internet connection.

The Mi 11i features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ resolution Super AMOLED display with a punch-hole cutout in the center. It runs on MIUI 12 out-of-the-box.

The device has a triple camera set-up on the back with a 108-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with 119-degree field-of-view and a 5-megapixel telemacro camera. On the front, there is a 20MP selfie camera. It is powered by a 4,520mAh battery that supports 33W charging.

The Mi 11i is available in silver, white and black. Prices start at €649 ($763) for the 8+128GB variant and €699 ($822) for 8+256GB.

Mi 11 Lite

Mi 11 Lite, the most affordable addition to the Mi 11 lineup, claims to be the lightest and thinnest (at 159g and 6.81mm) Mi phone to run on 5G technology. The device starts at 2,999 yuan ($456) and is available in black, mint green and yellow.

It features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 780 chipset and has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. For its camera setup, it has a 64-megapixel main camera with a 5-megapixel macro sensor and an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens. Its front camera is a 20-megapixel sensor.

Its 4G variant is equipped with the Snapdragon 732 chipset and is available in black, blue and pink.

Both variants of the Mi 11 Lite are powered by a 4,250 mAh battery with 33W fast charging.

Mi Smart Band 6

The new fitness tracker unveiled by Xiaomi has an upgraded 1.56-inch AMOLED touch display, with approximately 50% more screen space than its predecessor, the Mi Smart Band 5.

Packed with 30 sports modes and improved algorithms for better tracking, the Mi Smart Band 6 features SpO2 (oxygen saturation) monitoring, as well as heart rate monitoring and an enhanced sleep tracking function.

Mi AX9000

The new Mi AX9000 Gaming Wi-Fi Router is a Tri-band router that supports both 2.4 and 5G bands and is powered by a Hexa core Qualcomm chipset. The router, which is sold for 999 yuan ($152), can support stable connectivity for up to 16 devices.

What’s in Store Today

Xiaomi has decided to split the launch in two days and leave its fans hanging, unveiling the highly-anticipated Mi Mix only on Tuesday.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix – possibly the company’s first foldable phone – is going to be equipped with liquid lens. These lenses typically includes a layer of liquid, with focus and focal length controlled through electrical voltage, enabling a more compact telephoto camera module as well as faster and more accurate focusing.

In theory, a camera with a liquid lens could replace several of the cameras that are found on the rear of most smartphones.
