Honor CEO Zhao Ming: Domestic Market Share Has Risen to 16.2%
Zhao Ming, CEO of Chinese smartphone maker Honor, revealed on Wednesday that the company’s domestic market share has risen to 16.2%, close to its highest ever level of 16.7%.
After being separated from technology giant Huawei at the end of last year, Honor faced great challenges in its supply chain, causing problems such as the slow release of new products and poor market feedback. At that time, the firm’s market share dipped as low as 3%. When Honor’s Magic3 series was released in August this year, its market share increased to 14.6%.
Zhao said that in the past month, the cumulative sales of the Honor Magic3 series in the 4,000-8,000 yuan ($619-$1,237) price segment also entered top three ranks, providing an important boost for the rapid rise of Honor’s domestic market share.
On the same day as Zhao’s comments, the multi-master fusion computational photography pioneered by Honor was officially unveiled, which will be installed in the Magic3 series. The upgrade notification is expected to be launched in October.
Honor officially launched the latest imaging technology – multi-master fusion computational photography – with RGB, grayscale, spectrum, depth and other multi-dimensional information optimization. This marks the industry’s first time to offer whole lens-involved, whole focal length fusion computational photography.
Through powerful arithmetic that fuses the two images, the higher pixel image taken by the main camera will fill in the details in the center area, which can improve the center sharpness by 80% and enhance the picture quality of ultra-wide-angle photos.
The Honor Magic3 series also supports the fusion of the color main camera and the telephoto lens, just like the fusion with an ultra-wide angle, which can improve the clarity of the central part of the main camera through the telephoto lens. This can also improve the clarity of the image shooting 54-94mm focal length, thus significantly increasing the image quality of the portrait focal length. Using this new technology, clarity can be improved by up to 180%.

Users’ demand for images in the high-end market encourages smartphone manufacturers to make continuous breakthroughs. Unlike Honor, Vivo and Huawei mainly focus on self-developed chips, also jointly developing photosensitive elements with industry giants such as Lycra and Zeiss to enhance image quality.
