Huawei completes the first commercial deployment of its EcoMatrix "minimalist" base station with Claro in Peru. The single-pole design cuts device count, reduces energy use by 35%, and improves coverage.
Huawei has announced the world’s first commercial deployment of its EcoMatrix minimalist base station, completed in partnership with Peruvian telecom operator Claro.
The EcoMatrix solution is a highly integrated base station capable of consolidating multiple Sub-3GHz frequency bands—such as 700 MHz and 850 MHz—into a single pole-mounted unit. According to Huawei, the deployment reduced the number of site devices from 15 to just 3, saving approximately 30% of rooftop space.
Field tests showed a 35% reduction in overall energy consumption and a 1.8 dB improvement in network coverage strength. Key technologies include high-efficiency GigaGreen RRU hardware, true wideband RRU–antenna integration, and an innovative Signal Direct Injection Feeding (SDIF) cable-free design that minimizes signal loss. Huawei says the architecture also allows for smooth future expansion as new spectrum bands are introduced.
