Nearly 20K Merchants Use Alibaba.com’s VR Showroom
Alibaba.com, a cross-border trade B2B e-commerce platform owned by Alibaba Group, launched a VR Showroom function in August 2021. Chinese media outlet 36Kr has now learned that nearly 20,000 merchants on the platform have used this service to set up online exhibition halls, effectively reducing more than 2,000 cross-border offline factory visits.
Data show that overseas medium and large buyers account for about 50% of customers browsing the VR Showroom, and the browsing time has increased by three times. This function automatically builds a three-dimensional space model through XR Lab’s scanning equipment, and provides merchants with digital VR solutions for factory visiting and the checking of goods.
Alibaba.com is committed to driving more small and medium-sized enterprises to develop cross-border trade. In May of this year, it launched relief measures such as business opportunity guarantees, logistics guarantees, capital and financial guarantees, service and talent guarantees, covering all key links of cross-border e-commerce. In July, Alibaba.com launched a “Foreign Trade Relief Plus Plan,” which provides full-link digital products and services across three aspects: operations, services and talent.
In addition, at the beginning of this month, Wei Ran, the employee in charge of performance logistics and customs affairs at Alibaba.com, revealed in an official livestream the firm’s logistics arm has operated more than 26,000 lines in over 220 countries and regions around the world, realizing fast and multimodal transport by sea, land and air, and providing national, localized and industrial cross-border logistics solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
As part of the “Digital Seaport” plan proposed by Alibaba.com, the logistics service is open to all enterprises engaged in cross-border trade, and is not limited to just member enterprises of Alibaba.com.
