OPPO Responds to “Mass Layoffs of Huawei Employees”: False News

The TechFlow report stated that since the second half of last year, OPPO has been internally promoting the “Huawei-style channel reform”, and all regional agent companies and factories across the country have laid off Huawei employees by the end of the year. They believe that a large number of resignations from Huawei employees is actually a purposeful layoff with a legitimate reason found by the company.

In response to this, an official statement from OPPO said: This statement contains false information related to enterprises, and reports based on this assumption are not valid.

According to public reports, OPPO recruited a large number of “Huawei employees” after 2019 in order to learn Huawei’s distribution system – the large customer model, utilizing provincial branches to cover national distributors and improve efficiency to ensure profits.

Reports from TechFlow pointed out that this transformation has significant issues as there is a major conflict of interest between Huawei’s “large customer model” and OPPO’s existing secondary distributor model, while OPPO’s strategy this year is profit protection.

In addition, Huawei employees within OPPO often need to form a Huawei team in order to truly play a role, which is quite different from the style of OPPO employees.

According to reports from TechFlow, starting from the middle of last year, OPPO conducted internal self-inspections, requiring each employee involved to come forward and declare how much money they have taken from the company and how many reimbursements were made through irregular channels. This self-inspection by OPPO resulted in the removal of a large number of Huawei-related employees. The punishment for long-standing OPPO employees was relatively lighter, not because there were fewer implicated old employees at OPPO but because the severity of punishment was relatively mild.
