The Xiamen Tongan Shell Station, the first integrated battery charging and swapping station jointly built by NIO and Shell, was officially put into operation on August 1. The facility has one second-generation battery swapping station and two 180kW supercharging piles. NIO and Shell have also started cooperation in the field of electric vehicle energy.

Chinese EV maker NIO announced on November 25, 2021 that it had signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shell. The two sides will now cooperate in the field of EV energy on a global scale.

\n\n\n\n

The agreement shows that NIO and Shell plan to install 100 battery swap stations in China by 2025 and to operate pilot stations in Europe starting in 2022. Shell's charging network in Europe will be available to NIO users.

\n\n\n\n

NIO and Shell will continue to explore more opportunities for collaboration on battery asset management, fleet management, membership systems, home charging services, advanced battery charging and swap technology development. The two companies will work on building charging facilities in China.

In April last year, NIO signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation. Also, in last November, the first second-generation battery swapping station resulting from NIO's cooperation with the China National Petroleum Corporation was officially launched. In the cooperation with Shell, besides building a battery swapping station in China, it is more important to lay out battery swapping services overseas.

On June 28, 2018, the firm opened NIO Power, a one-click power-on service, which also means that NIO Power has officially opened its service to NIO users. According to statistics, 52.3% of NIO users' total power supply comes from power exchange, 24.2% from pile charging, 0.9% from one-button power supply and 11.4% from on-the-way charging.

NIO revealed that from the end of this year to the beginning of next year, it will introduce new power-on facilities such as liquid-cooled super-fast charging piles with peak power of 500kW and peak current of 650A and the third-generation battery swapping station one after another. It is reported that the third generation battery swapping station will have larger capacity and higher battery swapping efficiency, and will be compatible with a wider range of models and battery types. NIO is about to complete the research and development of a third-generation battery swapping station, and related test work is underway. The third-generation station is expected to be released within six months.
