In 2019, the United States listed Huawei on an \"entity list\". Any company on this list cannot work with U.S. enterprises without the permission of the US government.

In May 2020, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce issued an announcement requiring that chips produced with American technology and equipment must be approved by the government before being sold to Huawei.
