Chinastarmarket.cn reported Thursday that Alibaba-owned Keruyun, a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform for the catering, retail and beauty industries, will begin to operate independently and Alibaba will reduce its holdings in the firm.

Keruyun was established in 2012. It provides comprehensive software and hardware SaaS solutions to local life service businesses, helping them achieve digitalization and intelligent upgrades. In 2020, Keruyun became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alibaba’s Local Life department.

\n\n\n\n

Keruyun has launched a smart checkout system and a smart checkout scale. At the 2021 Apsara Conference, it unveiled the OnPOS 3W smart cashier scale, primarily for the fresh food retail industry, and especially for \"smart grocery stores.\"

\n\n\n\n

The company is headquartered in Beijing and has founded a sales center in Wuhan, a software R&D center in Chengdu, and a hardware R&D center in Shenzhen. It currently operates in nearly 100 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Wuhan, and has more than 5,000 employees and more than 800 authorized agents in China. Keruyun has served more than 600,000 merchants.

Keruyun envisions serving 2 billion consumers, creating 100 million jobs and helping 10 million SMEs to become profitable by 2036.
