WeChat Palm Payment Launches in Macau
On September 11, WeChat officially announced that the first overseas location for WeChat Pay would be ‘Macau’, with over 60 ‘payment points’ available, covering places such as Tianlongtiao Garden, Galaxy Hotel & Broadway, and StarWorld Hotel.
In May of this year, the Beijing Daxing Airport Express of the Beijing Subway officially launched the palm-swipe boarding service. After passengers register and activate the palm-swipe boarding service, they can use this method to pass through the fare gate on this subway line. This also marks the official release of the ‘WeChat Palm Payment’ product by WeChat Pay.
WeChat palm scanning uses ‘palm print + palm vein’ recognition technology. Users need to register their palm on the facial recognition device and link it to their personal WeChat account. When making offline purchases, they hold their palm up to the scanning area of the WeChat payment device, and after the device confirms completion, the payment is finalized.
