CATL has launched the world's first production line using embodied AI humanoid robots, achieving over 99% success in a critical battery testing process.
The world’s first new-energy battery production line to achieve large-scale deployment of embodied AI humanoid robots has officially gone into operation at CATL’s Zhongzhou manufacturing base, marking a major breakthrough for embodied intelligence in high-end manufacturing.
The production line addresses a long-standing bottleneck in the final testing stage of battery packs. Traditionally, workers are required to manually and precisely insert high-voltage testing connectors into battery packs—a task that carries safety risks and delivers inconsistent efficiency. CATL’s newly deployed humanoid robot, known as “Xiaomo,” has fundamentally changed this process.
Powered by an end-to-end vision–language–action (VLA) model, Xiaomo is capable of environmental perception and task generalization, allowing it to autonomously adapt to variations in incoming components and perform flexible manipulation of wiring harnesses. In real-world operations, the robot has maintained a connector insertion success rate exceeding 99%, with productivity matching that of experienced human workers. Its daily output has reached three times that of manual labor.
Xiaomo was developed by Qianxun Intelligence, an ecosystem partner of CATL, and is equipped with CATL’s in-house battery technology—an example of deep collaboration across the industrial value chain. Its successful deployment offers a new model for automation upgrades in complex manufacturing environments.
