Apple Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary in China

On August 18th, Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a message to celebrate Apple’s 30th anniversary in China and expressed that “A special thanks to all of our colleagues, customers, and partners.”

In addition, Apple’s official press release also celebrates its 30th anniversary in China. In the press release, Cook stated: “For 30 years, we’ve been proud to serve people across China, both by sharing our products and services with our customers and by giving back to the communities we’re part of. We will continue to do our part to enrich the lives of our customers in China, to help them connect with one another and reach their full creative potential, and we will do it all while leaving the world better than we found it.”

Apple established its office in Beijing in 1993 and opened its first retail store in China, Apple Sanlitun, in Beijing in 2008. Currently, there are 55 retail stores in the Greater China region, including cities such as Shanghai, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Chengdu, and Tianjin.

According to a study by Analysis Group, an international consulting firm, the total revenue and sales of the App Store ecosystem in China reached nearly 4 trillion yuan (570 billion US Dollar) in 2022 alone. From 2019 to 2022, the size of the Chinese App Store ecosystem doubled, with revenues for small developers growing by 59% from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, in 2022, 23% of new developers and entrepreneurs joining the App Store were from China.

Apple officially announced that in celebration of its 30th anniversary in China, it will be hosting a special Today at Apple session at the Apple Store in Sanlitun on August 18th. This is the first Apple Store retail location opened in China 15 years ago. The event will feature premieres of college student microfilms and music short videos, as well as live sharing and performances by music producers, singers, composers, and director Zhang Yadong.
