Apple Recruits Automotive Software Engineers in China

According to Apple’s official Chinese website, the US-based tech giant is currently recruiting engineers with experience in vehicle technology for positions in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The jobs involve providing integration support for automobile partners and assisting developers to complete Apple’s system certification, Yicai reported Sunday.

The official website also shows that this position is a hybrid role between technical engineering and program management, and the employee will be responsible for providing technical design and development guidance, handling certification records across the Car Experience programs (including CarPlay, car keys in Wallet) and promoting communication between Apple and global automobile industry engineering.

At the recent Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the company released a new generation of its CarPlay interactive system. Compared with previous versions, which mainly sync with smartphones, the new-generation system can directly control in-car functions such as radio, air conditioning and seat heating and ventilation. Users can also adjust dashboard information interfaces including oil and electricity status and speed, according to their preferences. In other words, the new generation of CarPlay can take over all the vehicle’s displays.

Compared with Huawei’s HarmonyOS and other automobile intelligent cockpit systems, the new-generation CarPlay is still based on smartphone syncing, and realizes the optimization of some basic function controls and in-car display effects through the open software interface of automobile enterprises, which is essentially different from HarmonyOS, AliOS and other intelligent cockpit systems that directly integrate software and hardware.

According to information released by Apple, 14 automobile brands, including Audi, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, will become early partners of this new-generation system. Other automakers with strong software capabilities such as Tesla, NIO<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder />, XPeng<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> and Li Auto<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder />, as well as major Chinese car companies with earlier layout in the field of intelligent cockpits have not yet appeared in this cooperation list.
